A binder foot guides bias binding over a fabric edge as it reaches the needle. Janome describes a small funnel that folds and guides pre-folded or self-cut bias tape. Its product page says the listed binder-foot family can be used with straight, zigzag, or decorative stitches, subject to the machine’s own stitch and clearance limits.
Check the foot variant first#
Janome separates its binder-foot listings into 9 mm, 5–7 mm top-load, and front-loading variants with different part numbers. The front-loading part 200140009 is listed for the Janome 2212. That does not establish that the tape width or adjustment for another variant will work on the 2212, or that similarly named feet from another brand are interchangeable.
The product page does not provide a universal binding-tape width, installation sequence, or regional part-number equivalent. Before buying, compare the exact machine, attachment, and accessory part number in the current local listing and manual. If the tape width is not stated, ask the manufacturer or dealer instead of assuming it from the foot’s appearance.
Test the binding path on scrap#
Use a short piece of the actual binding and fabric. Follow the manual to attach and thread the binding through the guide, then check by hand that the needle clears the foot at the chosen position and stitch. Sew slowly over a short sample and inspect both sides of the edge: the binding should cover the cut edge without bunching or pulling away.
Stop and adjust the setup if the tape will not pass through the funnel smoothly, the foot cannot sit flat, or the needle approaches the side of the opening. Do not change to a wider stitch or needle position unless the manual confirms that the foot and machine allow it.
