Brother describes the SA218 as a high-shank ruler foot for quilting with rulers or templates. Its product listing says the edge is higher and thicker to help keep a ruler from sliding under the needle, and the polished surface is intended to let the ruler glide. Brother gives the foot a 1/2-inch diameter; with the needle centered, that leaves 1/4 inch on either side of the needle. This is a description of the foot’s geometry, not a machine needle-clearance measurement.

The machine condition Brother names#

Brother says the SA218 is for machines whose settings pages allow the foot height to be changed. The product page does not name exact compatible models, give a setting value, or say that this feature alone proves a machine can use the foot. It also gives no installation, feed-dog, stitch, speed, or clearance procedure.

The label “high shank” and the ruler-foot features are not enough to confirm fit for a particular Brother model. Before buying, check the exact model and revision against Brother’s current accessory information and manual. Ask Brother or an authorized dealer if the model-specific relation is unclear.

Follow the exact machine and accessory manuals for setup. Check needle, foot, ruler, and plate clearance by hand only as the manual directs, with the machine off. Stop if anything touches.
