Brother identifies SA140 as an optional walking foot and lists CS7000X among the models covered by its use instructions. Check the current model list and the manual for the exact machine before attaching the foot. A similar attachment name does not establish compatibility.

Install the foot#

For the Brother installation procedure, turn the machine power off, raise the presser foot and needle, then remove the existing foot and holder. Fit the walking foot’s forked lever over the needle clamp and seat its left attachment on the presser bar. Lower the foot and tighten the holder screw securely. Turn the handwheel slowly toward you and confirm that the needle does not touch the foot before sewing. Stop if anything contacts or binds.

Brother’s SA140 use procedure also says to baste the quilt layers before quilting. Hook the foot’s connecting fork onto the needle-clamp screw, attach the foot with the holder screw, and guide the fabric evenly with one hand on each side.

Follow the SA140 limits#

Brother limits this foot to straight or zigzag stitches; its instructions say not to use other patterns and that reverse stitches cannot be sewn with it. Thread the needle manually, or attach the walking foot after using the machine’s needle threader. Sew at slow-to-medium speed. These limits belong to the cited Brother guidance and SA140, not to every walking foot.

Test with the full quilt sandwich before starting the project. Check both sides for even feeding, puckering, or skipped stitches. The Brother procedure does not establish a safe thickness limit, needle/thread combination, or settings for every model. Follow the exact manual and stop if the layers, foot, or needle do not move freely.
