The Janome 2212 instruction book documents blind hemming with selector E or F, the blind-hem foot, thread tension 2–4, and stitch length 1–3. Those controls belong to this model’s cited manual; do not transfer them to a different Janome or another brand. Check that the manual matches the machine before starting.
Confirm the foot#
Janome’s current accessory page lists two front-loading blind-hem foot parts, 200130006 and 611411000, with model 2212. The page describes a center guide that positions the folded fabric. The two part numbers are separate listings, not assumed interchangeable parts. Confirm the machine’s exact front-loading configuration and part number before attaching a foot.
Fold, set, and test#
- Fold the hem and turn it back to form the manual’s 0.4–0.7 cm allowance. The illustrations distinguish a heavier-fabric fold from a light- or medium-weight fold.
- Place the fabric so the needle just catches the fold at the extreme-left swing. Lower the foot.
- Turn the guide screw until the guide aligns with the folded edge.
- Sew along the fold, guiding the fabric so the needle catches its edge.
- Open the fold and inspect the right side.
Make a sample from the same fabric and hem layers before sewing the garment. If stitches show on the right side, the needle is catching too far into the fold. If the blind stitches miss the fold, stop and adjust the guide and needle position according to the manual, then test again. Do not change the stitch width or selector without confirming the needle clears the foot and plate by turning the handwheel slowly.
This setup is a 2212-specific starting procedure, not a fabric-independent promise that every material will produce an invisible finish. Check the finished sample in normal light and confirm that the hem remains secure when the fabric is handled.
