The bernette sew&go 1, 3, and 5 manual provides a fabric, needle, and thread selection guide. Treat its entries as starting examples for that manual family and confirm the model printed on your machine and the manual version supplied with it.
| Fabric or use | Manual needle example | Thread or setup note |
|---|---|---|
| Lightweight fabric | Size 70–80 | Light-duty cotton, nylon, or polyester |
| Medium fabric | Size 75–90 | Most medium threads |
| Denim, terrycloth, or heavier knits | Size 90 | Use the same thread top and in the bobbin, as the manual directs |
| Canvas, woolens, quilted fabric, denim, or light-to-medium upholstery | Size 100 | The manual’s heavier-fabric example |
| Lycra, swimsuit fabric, or elastic | Full ballpoint | Confirm the specific fabric and machine setup |
| Leather, vinyl, or upholstery | Leather needle, size 80–100 | Follow the manual’s listed material and needle system |
These pairings do not establish a universal thread-number conversion or guarantee that a thick fabric stack will feed. Prepare a sample with the project’s exact fabric, layers, thread, and stitch. Inspect the seam for skipped stitches, thread damage, large holes, or puckering; replace a bent or damaged needle.
For sew&go 5, the manual adds a separate twin-needle restriction: use a twin-needle assembly with no more than 2 mm between needles and keep the zigzag width dial at 3.0 or below. This is a sew&go 5 instruction, not a range for sew&go 1 or 3. Check the manual before using a twin needle, and follow the general clearance guide.
The type-and-size distinction is useful beyond this model family: select type for the fabric and task, then size for the thread and layers. See the needle-type selector and thread-matching guide.
